“The drive to close the gap between near-perfect and perfect is the difference between great and unstoppable.” – Tim Grover
I know your type.
You are not okay with average. You are not even okay with elite.
You’ve got goals the size of Mount Everest and dreams that would take the average person’s breath away. You’ve got a fire inside you that won’t be tamed. People may call you crazy or too energetic or overly focus. You prefer to be called a visionary. Ambitious. Assertive. Limitless.
You are not satisfied with the status quo and you don’t like to be told you’re limited. Because you know that you are not.
You won’t be satisfied until you become UNSTOPPABLE.
And guess what? YOU ARE ALREADY UNSTOPPABLE. The only limitations in your life are self-imposed. Yes – you, my friend, are absolutely in control of your experience in this lifetime.
Your thoughts and actions stem from your desire – that inner fire waiting to explode out every cell of your body to elevate you.
When this happens, you SHOW up bigger and brighter and THAT is what makes YOU unstoppable.
Are you needing that last little “push” away from the crowd? Do you need that slight wind to fill your sails? Do you feel you are on the cusp of something incredible but just need to figure out that last trick to set your future aflame?
Here is what will separate you from the crowd:
#1 Stop Thinking
“Right now someone far less qualified than you is living your dreams… all because they didn’t just talk about it; they took action.” – Brad Sugars
If you’re the type of person I think you are… you’ve been thinking about what you REALLY want for a long time. You’ve gone over everything already. It is time to trust your instincts and just DO IT. Stop analyzing. Stop thinking. Just GO!
You will regret much more the things you DIDN’T do than the things you DID, even if you failed. There is growth in failure and that is a gift in and of itself.
#2 Master Your Craft
“If it’s flipping burgers at McDonald’s, be the best burger flipper in the world. Whatever it is you do you have to master your craft.” – Snoop Dogg
There has got to be something that separates you from everyone else… and that something is going to happen when everyone else goes home for the night. Don’t get lazy. Work hard and become the BEST by putting in just that little extra time and effort that no one else will.
#3 Find Motivation Beyond Money
“Successful people make money. It’s not that people who make money become successful, but that successful people attract money. They bring success to what they do.” – Wayne Dyer
Money will never be enough motivation to get you where you need to go. You’ve got to be motivated by something deeper. I mean what is money, really? It is special printed paper. It doesn’t mean anything in the end. What DOES mean something is FREEDOM, connection with others, relationships, people, progression, learning, PASSION, etc. You’ve got to have something in your mind and heart that makes it all worth it for you.
#4 Never Be Satisfied
“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” – Tim Notke
Almost-perfect should never be enough for you. Close the gap between ALMOST and PERFECT and you will shoot beyond your competitors.
#5 Be In Control
“If you don’t make the time to work on creating the life you want, you’re eventually going to be forced to spend a LOT of time dealing with a life you don’t want.” – Kevin Ngo
Just because you CAN doesn’t mean you DO. When you can move past the tendency to stay in what is COMFORTABLE, EASY, and FAMILIAR… you will taste the uncomfortable, the hard and the NEW. If you want a life different than the one you’re living today than you’ve got to do what it takes to get to the NEW.
You’ve got to take more control than you ever have before. Temptation will be everywhere. Stay in the zone. You’ve got this.
#6 Live Life On Your Terms
“The goal isn’t more money. The goal is living life on your terms.” – Unknown
Did you know that 70% or more of Americans are UNHAPPY with their jobs? That is tragic! Don’t be one of them. If something doesn’t resonate with you, change it – now.
Dig into what you’re passionate about and find a way to make a living doing it.
#7 Thrive Under Pressure
“A diamond in a chunk of coal that is made good under pressure.” – Henry A. Kissinger
Don’t be intimidated or stressed out by pressure. When given the chance, most people choose to slide out from under pressure and take the easy road. Not you. Keep the pressure high. Pressure breaks the weak but makes diamonds of the strong. YOU ARE A DIAMOND.
#8 The More You Fail, The More You Win
“If I fail more than you, I win.” – Seth Godin
Henry ford went broke 5 times before he succeeded with Ford Motor Company. Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard and failed his first business before creating Microsoft. Walt Disney was told he “lacked imagination and good ideas” and failed multiple businesses before he became famous. Socrates was called an “immoral corrupter of youth” in his time but is now known as one of the greatest philosophers in history.
All the greatest people in history failed enough times that they eventually won.
#9 Only Compete With Yourself
“Look in the mirror… that’s your competition.” – Unknown
Your only competition should be yourself. Leave all other competition behind. This will keep you in your authentic zone. If you start competing with other people you will lose part of your vision, you will try to be someone you’re not and you will constantly find yourself unhappy.
#10 Success Isn’t Enough
“Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life, it’s about what you inspire others to do.” – Unknown
Average people succeed and slow down. Don’t let success make you lazy. Let success drive you harder to your next goals.
#11 Accept Fault When It’s Yours
“Assert your right to make a few mistakes. If people can’t accept your imperfections, that’s their fault.” – Dr David M. Burns
NEVER blame your mistakes on someone or something around you. OWN YOUR MISTAKES. With this ownership you will gain freedom and control that will otherwise be out of reach. A true sign of maturity is the ability to take responsibility when you have made a mistake.
#12 Stop Talking
“The man who brags for himself knows that no one else will.” – Robin Hobb
No bragging. No talking on and on about your accomplishments. If you are real, no words will be necessary. Your work will speak for itself. SHOW yourself and the world what you’re made of.
#13 Mental Resilience
“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change.” – Charles Darwin
Your life is going to be constantly changing and throwing new curve balls your way. Take the time to train your mind. Slowly build up mental resilience and strength. Learn to be at peace with discomfort. MEDITATE. Breath into pain and take control of it.
#14 Your Best Friend Is Your Confidence
“Self-confidence is the most attractive quality a person can have. How can anyone see how great you are if you can’t see it yourself?” – Kushand Wizdom
Build your confidence. Self-confidence is sexy and attractive and self-empowering. It will determine the size of your goals and the likelihood of achieving them.
#15 Hesitation Is Your Enemy
“On the plains of hesitation lie to blackened bones of countless millions who at the dawn of victory lay down to rest, and is resting died.” – Adlai E. Stevenson
Don’t stall. Don’t wait. Don’t question. Don’t analyze. Don’t hesitate. Just act. Just do. The train is moving fast and will be gone unless you jump on it NOW.
#16 Keep It Simple
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” – Leonardo Da Vinci
Make sure your goals are CLEAR and FOCUSED. Studies have shown that the more simple the goal the more likely it is to be achieved. I like to think of it this way: If you can’t explain it to a child, then it’s too complicated.
#17 Spend Time With People Of The Future
“Good friends are hard to find, hard to leave and impossible to forget.” – Unknown
The people around us influence us FAR more than we realize.
Spend your time with people ARE who/what you want to BE. You will become the average of the 3-5 people you spend the most time with. Really think about who you are hanging out with and decide whether or not they are going to help you reach your goals or hold you back. And be a positive reflection in their lives too.
#18 Jealousy Is A Waste Of Time
“Someone else’s victory is not your defeat.” – Unknown
You should genuinely want others to succeed. Their success is NOT a threat! Jealousy comes from fear, and you are not afraid.
#19 Multiply Every Goal TIMES 10
“Ambitious goals make for outstanding achievements.” – Nike
Want to make $1,000 this year in your business? Make it $10,000. Want to run the 5k? Make it a marathon. Think bigger. Broaden your horizon. Open your eyes a little wider. If you aim for the stars and land on the roof, you’re in good shape. But if you aim for the roof and land in the garbage… well, not exactly where you want to be, am I right?
#20 Take A Time Out
“When a man sits and saws down a tree hour after hour but takes no time to sharpen the saw… his progress will slowly come to a halt as his tool become unusable.” – Proverb
I know this one might be hard for you (it can be for me at times too), but it is equally as important as every other tip in this post.
Take time to rest.
When you are working, work. When you are resting, rest. Be 100% in whatever you are doing. Don’t bring your work into your rest or your rest into your work. Take time to breathe… to meditate… to ponder… to just be. It is vital to your spiritual, emotional, mental and physical well-being. The level of peace in your heart will play a big role in your ability to succeed.
#21 Stop Waiting
An old Chinese proverb says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
What a great reminder that there is no better time than NOW to reach for your true potential. You ARE limitless and you DESERVE to live an incredible, fulfilling life.
If there was one thing I could leave with you today it would be this: the potential is already inside of you. Don’t for a moment doubt that.
You’ve got this. I promise.
