By Lindsay Sibson

Dazed and confused.

Unfortunately I’m not referring to the hit 90’s sex, drugs and rock n’ roll movie.

What I AM talking about is the brain fog that many people are experiencing in their daily lives. From being forgetful to feeling lethargic, a great number of people today are not functioning at their optimal level.

It’s often said that “you are what you eat” – and as far as cliches go… this one is SPOT on.

The food you eat and products you use daily have a massive impact on your overall health, wellbeing and daily functioning. Furthermore, there are 5 common food ingredients that are most likely disturbing your gut, compromising your liver and damaging your brain – RIGHT NOW. Yikes!

Here Are The 5 Ingredients To Avoid For Better Brain Health:

Refined Sugar
  • One of the most DANGEROUS yet abundant ingredients lurking in your food.
  • Its consumption has been linked to various health issues.
  • Suppresses your brain growth hormone BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor).
    • Responsible for triggering new connections between neurons in your brain.
    • Vital for memory function.
    • Studies show low BDNF is often found in patients with depression and schizophrenia.
  • Increases inflammation.
    • Disrupts immune and digestive systems.
    • Can lead to higher risk of depression and schizophrenia.

REMOVE refined sugar to improve your mental clarity and mood and yield better health.

  • Common protein molecule found in wheat, rye, barley, kamut and spelt.
  • Stick protein binds to your small intestinal wall.
    • Causes digestive and immune system disorders.
    • Celiac disease is the most common condition linked with gluten sensitivity.
    • Non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) is a major factor in inflammatory brain and nervous system disorders.

    • Effects your entire neurological system.
  • Gluten has also been shown to trigger:
    • Psychiatric disorders
    • Cognitive impairment
    • Dementia
    • And many other neurological disorders
Artificial Sweeteners
  • Artificial sweeteners have been poisoning brains for decades.
    • Popular due to containing zero calories.
  • Aspartame is a combination of chemicals.
    • Aspartic acid: known to have excitatory effects on brain cells
    • Methanol
    • Phenylalanine
    • When broken down, these elements produce a powerful brain tumor-causing chemical
  • Aspartame consumption causes:
    • Anxiety
    • Slurred speech
    • Migraines
    • Depression

BEWARE: artificial sweeteners can be found in sodas, sauces, chewing gum, yogurt, cereal, flavored water and sugar-free products.

  • Added to public drinking water and has one of the most widespread and dangerous effects on your overall health, especially your brain.
  • Fluoride is linked to having a lower IQ.
  • Also causes: memory impairment, altered neurological behavior and fetal brain damage.
  • Damages your pineal gland, which can lead to weight gain, trouble sleeping and early aging.

LEARN: How to remove fluoride from you water and from your body.

MSG (Monosodium Glutamate)
  • A form of concentrated salt.
    • Added to foods to enhance flavor.
  • Is an excitotoxin and triggers your brain to produce excess dopamine (the feel-good drug).
    • The good feelings are short lived.
    • Long lasting negative side effects and also linked to: Parkinson’s, dementia, Alzheimer’s, MS and lupus.

LOOK OUT: MSG lurks in many processed foods, even “healthy” snacks. Check the labels: BBQ sauce, canned soups and vegetables, salad dressing, bouillon cubes.

The key to avoiding these damaging ingredients is to eat what mother nature makes:

  • Organic fruits and vegetables
  • Raw nuts and seeds
  • Grass-fed meat, free range chicken, wild caught fish
  • Spring and mineral water
  • Fresh herbs and spices

Each meal you eat is either helping or hurting your brain and body. Choose fresh foods and avoid these 5 ingredients to feel, look and live your BEST life!
