When it comes to your brain, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.
The bad news is, we live in a world full of more toxins and pollutants than any generation before us. These take a significant toll on our brains and in some cases may even cause damage.
The good news is, mother earth is still full of healing nutrient-dense foods that are formulated to help the brain repair and protect itself.
Your body is specifically designed to fight off bad guys. But over the past few decades, hundreds of new toxins have been created that our bodies may not be able to deal with on their own without a little help.
Just how many toxins are hanging out in our bodies?
In one study of umbilical cord blood, researchers found 217 chemicals that are toxic to the brain and nervous system. That’s not to mention about 60+ other toxins that were also found.
That means when babies are born – they are already battling around 300 chemicals and toxins that are foreign to the human body. Yikes!
So just how important is the health of our brain? Have you ever really thought about whether or not the foods you are eating are helping your brain to thrive?
What Is The Role Of The Brain?
Your brain is the “master and commander” of every single system and function of your body. It is the most intricate, complicated organ that you have.
Simple shifts have the ability to totally throw you off IF you’re not fully supporting yourself in the process. Even dehydration, which is so common, can send your brain into a state of WHAT THE HECK is happening???!!!
You see, your brain is home base for EVERYTHING your body does.
It is the message center for all the cells in your body, an interconnected webbing of neural pathways for EVERY habit, function and sense that you have and is the storage space for every detail of your day to day life.
Your brain uses a whopping 20% of the blood and oxygen in your body! It is constantly creating new neuropathways as you make new memories and can change and mold far into your middle-aged years.

When Your Brain Is Overtaxed By Toxins
Especially in this modern day and age, we live in a society that is not gentle on the brain – in fact, there are many factors of society that are terrifyingly dangerous for your brain.
It’s not a coincidence that so many people are walking around like zombies!
The worst part about this is that many of the dangers out there go completely unnoticed by most everyone, mostly because people just don’t know that they exist. They are so integrated into our daily lives, no one even stops to think about them.
Toxins are the silent killers of our society and are masters at their jobs – that is, their conniving, undercover jobs.
These are some of the top offenders that surround and impound you and your brain on a DAILY BASIS. Avoid these offenders at all costs!
Fluoride was initially added to water in order to help decrease tooth decay, but it has proven to have severe effects on the brain. This toxin in particular has been linked to having a lowered IQ.
Studies have found that fluoride almost always causes neurotoxicity in animals. When researchers looked into it further they also found that fluoride can have a negative effect on a child’s overall IQ and brain development.
In addition to being a known neurotoxin, fluoride may also be immunosuppressive, which means it raise your risk of chronic disease. Studies have found that doses as small as 1 milligram in drinking water may decrease the function of your immune system!
These are EVERYWHERE – they are found in vaccines, dental supplies, agricultural products, industrial pollution, fish, chicken, etc.
Mercury is the most rampant, connected to autism, Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and neurodevelopmental diseases.
These are nasty little deceivers, only because they are viewed as a “healthy alternative” to sugar. They are found in sodas, yogurt, chewing gum, cooking sauces, sweeteners, flavored water, cereals and most sugar-free foods.
They have been connected to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, slurred speech, migraines and signs of brain degeneration.
Aspartame is a major offender and is used to sweeten diet sodas and other sugar-free items. Researchers have declared aspartame a “highly hazardous compound” and have linked it to the DESTRUCTION of neurons!
Aspartame and other artificial sweeteners have also been known culprits of weight gain, cancer, tumors and other health concerns. Some doctors strongly advise that children and pregnant women avoid consuming artificial sweeteners all together.
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
MSG can be found in a lot of processed and fast foods.
Researchers have found that MSG can pass through the placental barrier and into an embryo. It has been linked to decreased memory and ability to learn.
These are mostly synthetic, unnatural additives that have been proven to be carcinogenic; many have been banned because of this. Pretty much ANY processed food that has bright colors also contains artificial food dyes.
Artificial colorings have been suspected in having a negative effect on learning and memory performance. In 2010 the European Union began putting warning labels on foods containing artificial dyes, stating that the food “may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.”
This is used in bread to increase volume; it breaks down to form innocuous bromide to keep bread from crumbling. It has been found to cause cancer in animals and has actually been banned everywhere except in the U.S. and Japan.

Pineal Gland Detox Strategy
As you work to eliminate harmful toxins and substances from your diet and environment, it is also important to take an offensive stance in detoxifying your brain. The following are foods and/or strategies that will give your brain proper nutrients to heal and cleanse.
Boron – This is a supplement that can help remove fluoride from your body. Studies have found it to be important for overall brain function and cognitive performance. It can naturally be found in BEETS and PLUMS.
Apple Cider Vinegar – This is a natural detoxifier that particularly targets the pineal gland due to its malic acid content. Research has found that vinegar may play an important role in promoting good brain function.
Garlic – This is a natural antibiotic that helps with dissolving calcium, making it excellent for helping with a good brain detox.
Distilled Water – Purest form of water and excellent for temporary detox regimens. Drink for up to 2 weeks at a time. Because it is devoid of many minerals it should not be used long term unless you add minerals back in. Drinking distilled water is also a good way to avoid fluoride.
Sleep One of the most CRITICAL parts of a good, effective brain detox. Your brain needs time to detox and recover and getting some good sleep is the best way to do this. There has been some exciting recent findings that show sleep is actually important for the brain to “clean out” itself each night. The lead author of the study, Dr Maiken Nedergaard, said, “the restorative nature of sleep appears to be the result of type active clearance of the by-products of neural activity that accumulate during wakefulness.”

Other foods that have a positive effect on your brain:
- 2 pounds bones (beef, lamb, chicken, etc)
- Chicken feet (optional, extra gelatin)
- 1 white onion
- 3 carrots
- 2 stalks celery
- 1 beet
- ½ head worth garlic cloves
- 2 tbsp raw apple cider vinegar
- Available herbs (parsley, basil, cilantro)
- Sea salt and pepper to taste
- For flavor, roast bones in the oven at 350 for 20 minutes.
- Place all ingredients except garlic and herbs into a crock pot. Fill with water until bones and veggies are covered.
- Cook on low for up to 12 hours.
- During the final 30 minutes, add garlic cloves and herbs.
- Once cool, strain into
I love to drink pure bone broth in the morning. It is nutrient-dense and very healing. This particular broth is packed with nutrients that have been shown to cleanse and support the brain and pineal gland.
