Donna’s juicing story is an uphill battle. After having been diagnosed with lupus, she couldn’t do as much exercise as she wanted to to attain the change that she wanted to achieve. But that didn’t constrain her to continue reaching for her goals. Anyway, she’s doing this for herself and for her family.
Now, after losing 46 pounds with juicing, she feels generally healthy at 45 years old. Her hair and skin are vibrant. She no longer have eye bags and she just feels energized.
Let’s take a snap of her amazing story of transformation!
HOW DID JUICING BECOME A PART OF YOUR HEALING PROCESS? HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT IT?
I had made several attempts to do a juice fast over the last 3 years, but failed after 3-5 days of feeling terribly ill. I did not know at that time it was because my body was detoxing & that it would soon pass. I had no support and was having a hard time finding enough information to keep me going. I was able to begin my first 30 day juice fast 7/28/2013 after finally finding the right motivators for me.
I had heard about Joe Cross’s movie, and watched it which started me on this road to juicing but never kept me going. I found FitLife on facebook, and started waatching the Saturday Strategies in a feeble at first, attempt to find some kind of motivation. The weight loss aspect of juicing is what initially started me looking into juicing and juice fasting.
WHEN DID YOU START AND WHAT’S YOUR REGIMEN?
My first official 30 day juice fast was 7/28-8/28/13. I started a 2nd 30 day juice fast on 9/11/13. I do my best to drink 16oz of juice every 3-4 hours. I also drink fruit infused water and caffeine free green tea in between juices if I feel thirsty, but not necessarily hungry.
WHAT VEGETABLES/FRUITS/ITEMS, etc. DID YOU MOST FREQUENTLY JUICE?
Spinach, bok choy, green cabbage, cucumbers, kale, red swiss chard, cantaloupes, watermelon, apples- red & green, celery, peaches, nectarines, pineapples, oranges, lemons, limes,
HOW MUCH WEIGHT HAVE YOU LOST SINCE THE BEGINNING OF YOUR JOURNEY?
46 pounds to date, and still going, and 2 pants sizes. I started in 24, and now am in 20
WHAT OTHER BENEFITS HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED?
Some days I have more energy that others, but I also have SLE Lupus, which still wins out in the zap your energy department. I have noticed that my hair & nails have gotten thicker & longer. My skin has a nice healthy look to it. I no longer have dark circles and bags under my eyes. And I sleep better both due to the juicing and getting better nutrients, and because of the weight loss.
DESCRIBE YOUR EXERCISE ROUTINE DURING THIS TIME.
Because I have lupus, my exercising has been pretty much just whatever walking I do around the office, around the house, or when I take my sons to the mall for shoes. I am going to be purchasing a bicycle so that I can go riding with my 12 year old son now that the weather is cooling off.
HAS YOUR LIFE OUTLOOK CHANGED?
Before I started my first juice fast, I was working on making changes to my diet. I have tried a lot of different “diets” and nothing ever seemed to work for long, if it worked at all. At my heaviest, I was 400 lbs. I lost 100 pounds several years ago, thru diet & exercise, but gained 60 lbs back over 4 years when I became so sick from the lupus. Since I started juice fasting, I have had to face head on the demons of my food addiction. I thought they were under control. I had not ‘over-eaten’ in years. But the truth is, that although I was not over eating, I was still not eating healthy and the small amounts that I was eating were still harming my body, and lulled me into a false sense of accomplishment. It has not been an easy 60 days of dealing with this addiction monkey, but I have proven to myself that it no longer has control over me.
WHAT WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE JUICING FOR THE FIRST TIME?
Find someone close to you who will support you, even if they do not juice with you. Someone who believes in you 150% and will be there with you every step of the way. You can do this. If I can do this, at 45 years of age, with SLE Lupus which keeps me from being able to exercise much, with a 12 yr old son & a 17 yr old son at home to cook for, and still work full time, you can too. If food addiction
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, NOTES, COMMENTS, ETC.
I can say that posting my daily, and some days twice daily, updates on facebook brought me more support than I thought imaginable. And from friends all over the world. The people that I thought would be the loudest are the quietest, and those I never thought would even notice have had the greatest impact on me.
Donna has already lost 100 pounds before. She stopped and gained back 60 pounds. She blamed it on the small amounts of unhealthy food that she ate for years, not until she got motivated by Fitlife. It’s a story of standing up and taking as much chances as possible. We only live in this world once. We might as well just live this world to the fullest.
